New White Paper Highlights Strategic Cyber and Defence Investment Potential in the Midlands

02 Jun 2025

Midlands Cyber, in partnership with Midlands Engine, has published a new white paper uncovering the investment opportunities within the Midlands' interconnected Cyber and Defence clusters. The report draws on insights from a landmark roundtable event hosted at MIRA Technology Park, which brought together over 50 senior representatives from industry, government, academia, and the armed forces.

A Unique Regional Strength

The Midlands is home to a rare convergence of innovation assets, defence infrastructure, cyber expertise, and a thriving ecosystem of SMEs and multinational firms. The white paper showcases how this integrated landscape positions the region as a prime location for business expansion and capital investment in both cyber security and defence technology.

Key Findings and Strategic Asks

The report identifies:

  • Untapped investment opportunities across both sectors
  • The role of anchor institutions and end users in strengthening the value chain
  • The importance of leveraging the region’s military footprint and R&D capabilities

To ensure these clusters reach their full potential, the paper also outlines six strategic asks, addressing areas such as policy support, skills development, infrastructure investment, and enhanced regional coordination.
