Driving Cyber & Tech Growth in Herefordshire
18 Feb 2025
On Tuesday, 11th February, Midlands Cyber had the opportunity to attend the second Herefordshire Cyber & Technology Forum at the Midlands Centre for Cyber Security. Building on the foundations of the first meeting in October, the session brought together local businesses, educators, and local government representatives to explore opportunities for growth, collaboration, and skills development within the Herefordshire cyber and technology ecosystem.
Key Discussions & Insights
A particular focus of the meeting was on skills development and workforce planning, addressing the growing need for cyber talent in the region. Attendees heard updates from Herefordshire Council on business support initiatives and developments at CyberQuarter, reinforcing its role as a hub for cyber innovation.
The Department for Science, Innovation and Technology (DSIT) provided valuable insight into the national support programms for cyber businesses, while the Cyber Resilience Centre for the West Midlands highlighted their work in strengthening cyber resilience to prevent Cyber crime across the region. Education was another key theme, with Herefordshire, Ludlow & North Shropshire College sharing updates on their computing and cyber courses, helping to ensure that students are equipped with industry-relevant skills. Additionally, the Department for Work & Pensions (DWP) outlined their evolving role in supporting knowledge-based jobs and employers, recognising the increasing importance of cyber roles in the local economy.
The forum concluded with an open discussion, where businesses and stakeholders shared insights on challenges and opportunities within the region. Collaboration remains a priority, and it was encouraging to see organisations committed to strengthening Herefordshire’s cyber sector.
Looking Ahead
With continued engagement and momentum, the Herefordshire Cyber & Technology Forum is proving to be an important platform for fostering local innovation and industry support.
The next meeting is expected to take place in late May or early June, providing another opportunity to build on these discussions and drive action on key priorities.
